Lethbridge – Having each won their first conference title two weeks ago, freshmen Kayla Gallagher and Peter Millman will be the only two Pronghorns to represent the university at the CIS Championships this week, hosted by the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
Gallagher, a double medalist at the Canada West championships, will be the first to compete. She will participate in the meets opening event, the weight throw Thursday afternoon. She will also compete in the shot put Friday afternoon.
Gallagher claimed the Canada West gold medal in the weight throw and her 16.85 metre toss was the furthest throw in CIS history by a first-year athlete.
Millman was also a double medalist at the Canada West championships. He will compete in the weight throw on Friday and the shot put on Saturday. Millman enters the CIS Championship undefeated in the weight throw; winning his first conference championship with a throw of 16.88 metres.
He missed winning the shot put event by 21 centimeters, earning the silver medal with a distance of 14.82 metres. Millman was also named the Canada West rookie of the year.
