Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 19, 2014.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Scott Slomp – Men’s Soccer
Playing in his final games as a Pronghorn, defender Scott Slomp provided his team with an exceptional defensive performance and outstanding leadership, as he did his entire career in blue and gold.
Heading into the weekend the ‘Horns were right in the playoff mix and despite not completing the task, the Picture Butte native finished his career with a pair of strong performances in the ‘Horns two losses to the Calgary Dinos and missed the playoffs by only two points.
During his final season the Management student played every minute of all 12 conference games and chipped in with a goal and an assist from his defender position.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Kayla Wurzer – Women’s Soccer
Also playing in her final games in blue and gold, fifth-year midfielder Kayla Wurzer patrolled the middle of the field with a determination that anchored the team to strong performances in both games. In doing so, she led the ‘Horns in eliminating the Bisons from play-off contention.
On Sunday, Kayla distributed the ball that sent Meaghan Welby on a break-away that ultimately led to a foul in the box. Kayla then stepped up and converted the ensuing penalty kick to level the game at 1.
Despite missing two games during her senior season, the Management major finished the season with a goal and an assist, which tied her for second in points on the Pronghorns.
