Male Athlete of the Week:
Hayden Rintoul – Men’s Hockey
During the final weekend of the Canada West schedule, third-year rear-guard Hayden Rintoul had arguably his best weekend of the season in the ‘Horns weekend spilt versus the UBC Thunderbirds.
Rintoul scored twice in the ‘Horns 4-3 win Friday night, once on the power play, and jumped into a rush while shorthanded to score his other goal.
Despite the ‘Horns falling 4-0 in the season finale, Rintoul had another strong game from his blue line position, registering two shots on goal and finishing the night with a even plus/minus rating.
This season, the former Victoria Royal, recorded three goals and two assists in 22 games.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Allexia Barros – Women’s Basketball
American junior college transfer Allexia Barros had her finest weekend in Pronghorn blue and gold last weekend combining to score 46 points, while adding 12 rebounds in the two ‘Horns two games in Victoria,
Friday night, in the ‘Horns 86-61 loss to the Vikes, Barros tied Kim Veldman for a team high 16 points on 8 of 16 shooting. She also grabbed four rebounds in the loss.
The New Bedford, Massachusetts, native then set a Pronghorn career high Saturday night in the ‘Horns last second 80-78 loss. Barros led all scorers with 30 points on another efficient shooting night, hitting on 11 of 21 shots. She also recorded eight rebounds, five steals and two assists.
On the season, she sits second in Pronghorn scoring with 15.1 points per game.
