Female Athlete of the Week:
Nikki Furukawa – Women’s Soccer
Newcomer Nikki Furukawa made an immediate impact in her Pronghorn debut last weekend scoring in both games to the lead the ‘Horns to a weekend split in the opening series of the season.
Saturday in the ‘Horns home opener, Furukawa scored the game’s opening goal, which turned out the be the game winning goal in the ‘Horns 2-0 win over the MacEwan Griffins.
The Lethbridge native and former Calgary Dino scored the ‘Horns lone goal in Sunday’s loss to the Mount Royal Cougars.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Domenic Rigaux – Men’s Soccer
Fourth-year midfielder, Domenic Rigaux, a key to any success this season for the men’s soccer team, led the ‘Horns to a 1-1 record in the conference opening weekend.
Following a disappointing loss in the ‘Horns opener Friday afternoon versus the CIS ninth ranked Alberta Golden Bears, Rigaux had a strong bounce back game Sunday to lead the ‘Horns to a convincing 3-1 win over the MacEwan Griffins.
Riguax had a great defensive presence all over the field and was a key link to the ‘Horns transition to offense. He finished the game with an assist and three shot attempts.
