Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 18, 2015.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Jocelyn Sabourin – Women’s Hockey
Fourth-year defender Jocelyn Sabourin has had a great start to the season for the Pronghorn women’s hockey team and was the best player on the ice for the Pronghorns in their weekend split with the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Friday night, her game was highlighted by a great individual effort scoring the game winning goal in overtime. Near centre ice, Sabourin forced a Huskie turnover then skated into the Huskie zone and potted the winner to improve the ‘Horns to 5-0 on the season.
Despite losing their first game of the season Saturday night, Sabourin had another strong game and recorded three shots on goal.
Through six games, Sabourin is tied for the scoring lead among defenders with two goals and four assists and has already set a career high with six points.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Kendell Wiens – Men’s Soccer
Second-year local product Kendell Wiens was his team’s mvp in both games this past weekend, as the Pronghorn men’s soccer team swept the Winnipeg Wesmen to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Saturday afternoon, Wiens scored once and assisted on the other goal to lead the ‘Horns to 2-1 win over the Wesmen. The next afternoon Wiens added another assist and it was his effort that drew a penalty kick in the second half that sealed the ‘Horns 4-2 win.
With one weekend remaining in the season, Wiens has two goals and three assists on the season and is tied for the team lead in assists with Dom Point du Jour.
