Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 25, 2015
Female Athlete of the Week:
Sarah Gordon – Women’s Rugby
Heading into the Canada West final four, the Pronghorn coaching staff knew that outside half Sarah Gordon would have to be a key contributor if they were going to be successful versus the undefeated Calgary Dinos, and she put forth a truly outstanding performance in the ‘Horns upset win of the Dinos, thus earning a trip to the CIS Championships.
Gordon intercepted an errant Dino pass and raced down the field to score an important try in the ‘Horns 35-25 win. Her kicking game was perfect as well, hitting all five converts she took, proving to be the difference in the game as the Dinos did not make one convert.
In Sunday’s loss to the Victoria Vikes in the gold medal game, Gordon hit a convert and a penalty goal before leaving the game due to a injury
Male Athlete of the Week:
Kendell Wiens – Men’s Soccer
For the second week in a row a ‘Horns soccer player Kendell Wiens earns the nod of Pronghorn male athlete of the week after another strong weekend to close out the 2015 soccer season.
Wiens was a force offensively in the ‘Horns 4-4 tie with the MacEwan Giffins Saturday afternoon, scoring once and registering four shots. In Sunday’s season finale, he assisted on the second goal of the game in the ‘Horns 2-0 win over the Alberta Golden Bears.
The 6’3” Lethbridge native finished the season with three goals and led the Pronghorns in assists with four.
