Female Athlete of the Week:
Nikki Furukawa – Women’s Swim
 
Fourth-year midfielder Nikki Furukawa opened the 2016 Canada West with a bang this past weekend, scoring all three of the Pronghorn goals during their season opening weekend split with the UBC-O Heat and TRU WolfPack.
 
Saturday afternoon, Furukawa opened the scoring with her first of the season in the Pronghorns 2-1 loss to the visiting Heat. Sunday versus the WolfPack, she scored twice in less than three minutes at the end of the half to lead the ‘Horns to a 2-0 win.
 
The science student also led the team with six shots on goal on the weekend and was named the Canada West third star of the week.
 
Furukawa and the Pronghorns head out on the road this coming weekend to face the MacEwan Griffins in Edmonton and the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary.
