Male Athlete of the Week:
Dejon Burdeaux – Men’s Basketball
As any top point guard does, fourth-year guard Dejon Burdeaux led the Pronghorns to a Canada West season opening sweep of the MacEwan Griffins. Burdeaux combined for 36 points, 11 steals, 8 assists and 8 rebounds in the two games.
In the ‘Horns 79-62 win Friday night, Burdeaux, who led Canada West in steals last season, recorded nine points, seven steals, five rebounds and two assists.
Saturday night, in the ‘Horns razor thin 90-88 win, the Oakland, California native was one the main reason the ‘Horns were able to complete the sweep. He scored a game high 27 points on an efficient 10 for 13 from the floor, while also contributing six assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Next up for the Pronghorns is a home-and-home series with the Mount Royal Cougars, starting Thursday night in Calgary. The back half of the weekend set will go Saturday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre in Lethbridge.
