Male Athlete of the Week:
Justin Valentino – Men’s Hockey
Third-year forward Justin Valentino is off to his best start offensively this season and that continued this past weekend in Winnipeg, where Valentino picked up two goals and an assist in a series the Pronghorns split in Winnipeg with the Manitoba Bisons.
Friday night, Valentino assisted on the eventual game winning goal in the ‘Horns 4-2 win. He also recorded two shots on goal and was a plus one.
In the rematch, the Thompson, Manitoba product scored twice, including the ‘Horns fourth goal to bring his team with in one goal of the Bisons. The ‘Horns were unable to complete the comeback, dropping a 6-4 decision.
Through 10 games this season, Valentino has already set a career high in goals with seven, which has him tied for second in Canada West in goals this season. He also leads the ‘Horns with nine points this season and has a exceptional shooting percentage of 38.9%.
This weekend Valentino and his Pronghorn teammates take on the Mount Royal Cougars in a home-and-home series starting Friday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
