Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 8, 2017.
 
Male Athlete of the Week:
Dejon Burdeaux – Men’s Basketball
 
Kicking off the second semester of conference action, fourth-year point guard Dejon Burdeaux took over late in both games to lead the Lethbridge Pronghorns to a weekend sweep of the UNBC Timberwolves. The Oakland, CA native combined for 44 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals in the two victories.
 
Friday night, Burdeaux scored 24 points on an efficient 8 for 11 from the floor and was 8 of 9 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with three assists, three steals and two rebounds in the 82-71 win.
 
In the series finale, the science student scored a team high 20 points and was a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line in the 76-63 win. He also grabbed another six rebounds, while collecting three assists and two steals.
 
On the season, Burdeaux sits 15th on the conference scoring list, averaging 15.4 points per game, while leading Canada West in steals with 44 and is second in total assists with 54.
 
Burdeaux and his Pronghorn teammates are at home again this weekend, hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies.  

Female Athlete of the Week:
Jessica Bachynski – Women’s Basketball
 
In her first season with the Pronghorns, Jessica Bachynski recorded back-to-back double-doubles to lead the Pronghorns to their first weekend sweep in more than two years. In the two wins over the UNBC Timberwolves, Bachynski combined for 28 points, 22 rebounds, five blocks, three assists and a steal.
 
Friday night in the Pronghorns 89-70 win over the Timberwolves, the former Utah Valley Wolverine scored 11 points and recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 rebounds. She was also credited with four blocks, an assist and a steal.
 
In the sweep completing win, Bachynski was a perfect 5 for 5 from behind the arc, en route to scoring a season high 17 points. She recorded another 10 rebounds, while picking up a block and two assists in the 73-69 win.
 
On the season, Bachynski leads Canada West in total rebounds with 111 and is second in the conference with 18 blocks. In 11 games played she is averaging 7.3 points and 10.1 rebounds a game.
 
 Both Bachynski and Burdeaux were named the Canada West third star of the week for their respective genders.
