Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 29, 2017.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Clint Filbrandt – Men’s Hockey
With his team facing a virtual must win weekend, freshman rearguard Clint Filbrandt was an offensive catalyst during the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s hockey team’s sweep of the UBC Thunderbirds this past weekend, combining for six points over the two games. He was also named the Canada West third star of the week.
Friday night, the Calgary, Alberta product scored once and added an assist in the Pronghorns 5-2 win. He also registered three shots on goal and was a plus two on the night.
Saturday afternoon, Filbrandt registered a career high four points, scoring on a breakaway, while assisting on three other goals, including the overtime winning goal, in a 8-7 overtime win.
With the two wins, the Pronghorns now lead the Thunderbirds by four points for the final playoff spot in Canada West with four games to play.
On the season, Filbrandt is fifth among defensemen in scoring in Canada West with six goals and 10 assists in 20 games.
The Pronghorns head out on the road looking to solidify their playoff position, travelling to Edmonton to take on the eighth ranked Alberta Golden Bears.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Zoe Dahl – Women’s Basketball
Fourth-year guard Zoe Dahl combined to score 29 points to help the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s basketball team keep their playoff hopes alive with a weekend split with the UBC Okanagan Heat.
Friday night, Dahl scored a team high 20 points to go along with five assists and two rebounds in the Pronghorns 72-66 loss to the Heat. She was also a perfect six for six from the free throw line.
The next night, the Henry Wise Wood product scored nine points on four for eight shooting, while adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Pronghorns convincing, 81-44 win over the Heat.
With two games remaining in the conference schedule, Dahl leads the Pronghorns in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game. She also averages 3.6 rebounds and two assists.
Dahl and her Pronghorns teammates have a bye this weekend, but return to action next weekend, travelling to Edmonton to face the Alberta Pandas.
