Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 19, 2017.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Elliott Sentance – Men’s Basketball
Playing in his first season with the Pronghorns, forward Elliott Sentance has been a catalyst at both ends of the floor for the men’s basketball team and this was evident again this past weekend as Sentance helped his team to a first round sweep of the Victoria Vikes.
An exceptional on the ball defender, the Leicester, England product got it done at the other end of the floor as well, scoring 21 points in Friday’s 97-85 win, to go along with eight rebounds, seven assists and a block. Saturday night, Sentence scored another 14 points and picked up three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the 94-85 win.
During the regular season, Sentence led the team in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game.
Sentence and the Pronghorns head to Edmonton to take on the Alberta Golden Bears in a best of three quarter-final, starting Thursday night.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Caitlin Sears – Women’s Rugby
First-year scrum half Caitlin Sears was exceptional for the Pronghorn women’s rugby team at the final stop of the inaugural Canada West women’s rugby series, leading the Pronghorns to a fifth place finish in Victoria and a tie for fourth in the series overall standings.
Throughout the two days in Victoria, Sears was a key facilitator moving the ball from her scrum half position and broke through with some timely runs, while scoring a try and kicking two converts.
During the series, Sears finished second on the Pronghorns in scoring with two tries and nine made converts.
The Pronghorns women’s rugby team is now preparing for the National University Sevens Rugby Championships in Langley B.C., March 17th & 18th.
