Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 26, 2017.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Peter Millman – Men’s Track
Competing in his final Canada West Championship, fifth-year thrower Peter Millman completed a sweep of the throwing events for the fourth consecutive season and was named both the Canada West Field Athlete of the Year and men’s Community Service Award winner.
Millman opened the meet in Regina with his fifth consecutive gold medal and led a Pronghorn podium sweep in the weight throw. A toss of 18.13 metres was good enough to edge out teammate Sean Steacy for top spot.
On day two of the conference meet, the Truro, Nova Scotia product put a stamp on his Canada West career with his fourth consecutive gold medal in the shot put with a furthest throw of 17.54 metres.
It was also the fourth time Millman has been named the Canada West Field Athlete of the Year but the first time he has received the Community Service Award after spending countless hours during his time as a student-athlete giving back to the Lethbridge community, including time working on several mental health initiatives.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Lara Roth – Women’s Track
Fourth-year thrower Lara Roth returned from the Canada West Track and Field Championship with a pair of medals and punched her ticket to the U SPORTS Championships in two weeks’ time.
Roth opened the conference meet with a bronze medal in the shot put with a throw of 12.31 metres. She followed that up with a silver medal in the weight throw. Her furthest toss of 14.29 metres edged Regina’s Faith Ogundipe by only centimetre for the Silver Medal.
Roth will be joined at the U SPORTS Championships in Edmonton by fellow throwers Peter Millman, Sean Steacy, Ben Ingvaldson, along with jumper Aaron Hernandez and Heptathlete Brayden Posyluzny.
