Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 24, 2017.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Dominique Point du Jour – Men’s Soccer
Nearing the end of his Pronghorn career, fifth-year midfielder Dominique Point du Jour was the offensive catalyst this past weekend as the Pronghorn men’s soccer team split their home series this past weekend.
Saturday afternoon in the Pronghorns 2-1 loss to the Fraser Valley Cascades, Point du Jour made a nice individual effort to set up Stephen Primeau for the lone Pronghorn goal, beating a pair of defenders before laying the ball off to Primeau in the Cascades penalty area.
In Sunday’s 1-0 win over the UNBC Timberwolves, Point du Jour connected on a penalty kick in the second half to give the Pronghorns a crucial three points.
On the season, Point du Jour leads the Pronghorns with three goals and is tied for the team lead in points with five.
This weekend, the Pronghorns host their final home games of the 2017 season, hosting the defending U Sports Champion Alberta Golden Bears Friday at 2:00pm and the MacEwan Girffins Sunday afternoon at 2:15pm.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Sarah Gordon – Women’s Rugby
Making her return after a year away from the program, fifth-year fly half Sarah Gordon, did the bulk of the damage on the scoreboard for the Pronghorns in their season opening loss, 42-15 to the defending Canada West Champion Calgary Dinos.
The Surrey, B.C. product scored 10 of the Pronghorns 15 points, scoring one try and kicking a convert and penalty goal.
Her 10 points put her 10th in Canada West scoring and she is only one of two players in the top 10 in scoring that have played only one game this season.
Gordon and her Pronghorn teammates head out west this weekend to face the Victoria Vikes on Friday and then face the UBC Thunderbirds Sunday in Vancouver.
