Female Athlete of the Week:
Sydney De La Mare – Women’s Rugby
Heading out on the road for the first time this season, second-year Sydney De La Mare was outstanding for the Pronghorn women’s rugby team earned a weekend split on the West Coast.
Knowing it would take a big defensive effort to be successful, the St. Albert, Alberta product stepped up her game defensively and in addition to her strong defensive play she also set the platform for a lot of great attacking options as well.
Friday evening, the Pronghorns dropped a 59-20 decision to the red-hot Victoria Vikes, but De La Mare and her teammates have been the only team to score on the Vikes and limit them to under 80 points.
Sunday the Pronghorns picked up a 34-22 win over the UBC Thunderbirds to earn their first conference win of the season.
The Pronghorns will host the Alberta Pandas October 14th to wrap up the conference schedule. The Canada West Championships will be hosted the following week at the University of Calgary.
