Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 19, 2017.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Mitch Maxwell – Men’s Hockey
Putting an end to an extended losing streak, Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s hockey Captain Mitch Maxwell led by example, collecting six points in two games as the Pronghorns swept the Manitoba Bisons with a pair of 4-3 overtime wins.
Friday night, the Magrath, Alberta product had a hand in all four goals as the Pronghorns battled back from a one-goal deficit on three separate occasions to snap an eight-game losing streak with a 4-3 overtime win.
Maxwell forced overtime with a third period marker and picked up three assists.
The next day, Maxwell scored the game winning goal only 17-seconds into the extra frame to give the Pronghorns their first weekend sweep of the season. He also picked up an assist, recorded three shots on goal and was a plus one.
On the season, Maxwell now sits in a tie for third on the conference scoring list with six goals and 11 assists.
This coming weekend, Maxwell and the Pronghorns head out on the road, traveling to Regina to face the Regina Cougars.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Kacie Bosch – Women’s Basketball
Continuing with her team’s exceptional start to the season, point guard Kacie Bosch led the way as the Pronghorn women’s basketball team moved to 8-0 in conference action for the first time in program history following a road sweep of the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
Friday night, the Chinook High School grad scored 14 points on an efficient 6 of 10 shooting, including hitting on both of her three pointers in the Pronghorns 73-53 win over the WolfPack. She also recorded seven rebounds, three steals and one assist.
The next night, Bosch led all scorers with 19 points, to go along with five rebounds, two steals and another assist in the Pronghorns 79-59 win.
On the season, Bosch leads the Pronghorns in scoring with 12 points per game, while also averaging 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals a night.
This coming weekend, the Pronghorns will travel to Regina to face the top ranked Regina Cougars.
