Female Athlete of the Week:
Sandra Latrace – Women’s Track
Following a triumphant return to the indoor season two weeks ago, second-year jumper/sprinter Sandra Latrace continued her strong start to the 2018 season, winning both the events she entered this past weekend at the Bison Classic, hosted by the University of Manitoba.
Latrace won the long jump with a leap of 5.85 metres and took the gold medal in the 60 metre dash with a time of 7.70 seconds. In the long jump, Latrace is ranked first in Canada West and is second in U SPORTS rankings, only one centimeter behind the leader, and is ranked second in Canada West in the 60 metre.
Continuing to prepare for the Canada West Championships, hosted by the University of Manitoba, February 23rd and 24th, Latrace will compete in her final competition prior to the Championships this coming weekend at the University of Alberta.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Ben Ingvaldson – Men’s Track
Continuing with his solid early season results, third-year thrower Ben Ingvaldson won both of the events in which he competed and set a new personal best along the way in Winnipeg this past weekend at the Bison Classic.
Ingvaldson opened with a personal best in the weight throw, taking the top spot with a toss of 16.80 metres. He now sits in first in Canada West and second in U SPORTS rankings.
In the shot put, Ingvaldson took home the gold medal with a throw of 15.78 metres and sits atop the Canada West rankings and second nationally.
Ben and the rest of his teammates will have one more tune-up competition this coming weekend before the Canada West Championships. The Pronghorns will head to Edmonton this weekend to compete in the Golden Panda Open. The Canada West Championships will be hosted in Winnipeg, February 23rd and 24th.
