Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 16, 2018.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Raeleen Vanden Dungen – Women’s Soccer
Third-year defender Raeleen Vanden Dungen, returning from a pre-season broken nose to lead the defence against U SPORTS sixth ranked UBC Thunderbirds and Victoria Vikes, who have also garnered top 10 nominations.
In both games the Thunderbirds and Vikes put the ‘Horns on the defensive and Vanden Dungen’s speed and backline management helped the ‘Horns earn two scoreless halves against two very strong teams.
After a scoreless opening half against UBC on Friday and early own goal turned the tide in the T-Birds favour in a 4-0 UBC win. Saturday, the Vikes rode a first half goal to a hard fought 1-0 victory.
Vanden Dungen and her Pronghorns teammates are on the road again this weekend, traveling to Winnipeg to face the Manitoba Bisons and Winnipeg Wesmen
Male Athlete of the Week:
Sean Gaiesky – Men’s Soccer
Senior captain Sean Gaiesky continues to lead his young Pronghorn side and remains to be the most consistent Pronghorn early into the Canada West season.
This past weekend, Gaiesky was named the Pronghorn player of the game Saturday in the team’s 1-1 tie with the UBC Heat. His ability to distribute the ball through the middle of the field and win battles on both sides of the ball make hime an effective player each and every game.
On the season, Gaiesky has scored once and has registered five shot attempts.
Gaiesky and the Pronghorn men’s soccer team is on the road for the next two weekends. This coming weekend the team will travel to Prince George to face the UNBC Timberwolves and Victoria to take on the Vikes.
