For Immediate Release – September 24, 2018
Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 23, 2018.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Carolyn McKee – Women’s Rugby
Third-year full back Carolyn McKee was instrumental in leading the Pronghorns to an important win on Saturday versus the Alberta Pandas. The Education major was dominant on defence and scored a great individual try in the second half to ensure the win.
In the 71st minute, McKee stole the ball near midfield and raced away from all Panda defenders to score her first try of the season and seal a 38-32 win over the Pandas and keep their playoff hopes alive.
The task doesn't get any easier for McKee and the Pronghorn women’s rugby team, as the team travels to Calgary this Sunday to take on the defending Canada West Champion Calgary Dinos.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Nolan French – Men’s Soccer
Despite a tough start to the season, fourth-year keeper Nolan French has been a bright spot for the men’s soccer team and provides the Pronghorns with solid goalkeeping game in and game out.
On the road last weekend, French made eight saves in a hard fought 1-0 loss in Prince George to the UNBC Timberwolves. He followed up that performance with an 11 save performance in a 5-0 loss to the Victoria Vikes.
French has been in the Pronghorn net for every minute thus far and sits second in saves in Canada West with 50 saves in eight games.
French and his Pronghorn teammates are on the road again this weekend, traveling to Edmonton to face the Prairie Division leading Alberta Golden Bears and MacEwan Griffins.
