Male Athlete of the Week:
Mike Pierzchala – Men’s Basketball
In his return to the team after sitting out last season, fourth-year forward Mike Pierzchala made an immediate impact for the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s basketball team in a season opening sweep of the MacEwan Griffins. The Lethbridge product combined for 43 points, nine rebounds, three steals and a block in the Pronghorns two game weekend sweep.
Friday night in the Pronghorns conference opener, Pierzchala led all scorers with 23 points in a dominant 92-54 win over the Griffins. Hitting on a skillful 58.3% from the field, including three of eight from long range, the Bachelor of Arts student also added three rebounds and one block in the win.
The next night, Pierzchala chipped in with another 20 points, six rebounds and three steals in the Pronghorns 96-79 win.
Through the first two conference games of the season, Pierzchala sits tied for fifth in Canada West scoring, averaging 21.5 points.
The Pronghorn men’s basketball team heads out on the road for the first of two consecutive road weekends, traveling to Kelowna to face the UBCO Heat.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Kacie Bosch – Women’s Basketball
Looking to start the Canada West conference schedule on the right foot, fourth-year Lethbridge product Kacie Bosch paced the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s basketball team to a sweep of the MacEwan Griffins, combining for 28 points, five rebounds, six steals and two assists in the two win.
Friday night in the Pronghorns convincing 78-54 win over the Griffins, the 5-foot-9 guard scored 11 points on five of six shooting in only 14 minutes of action before leaving the game due to injury. She also added three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
The next night, wearing a protective face mask, Bosch led all Pronghorn scorers with 17 points on an efficient seven of 12 shooting, including hitting three from behind the arc, in the Pronghorns 69-50 win. She added another three steals and two rebounds in the win.
Bosch and her Pronghorn teammates head out on the road this weekend, traveling to Kelowna to face the UBCO Heat.
