Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 25, 2018.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Owen Guyn – Men’s Swimming
Competing in his final Canada West Championships, fifth-year swimmer Owen Guyn had an exceptional performance and helped the Pronghorn men to a sixth place finish in a tight race with Alberta and Regina in the men’s team standings.
A 2017 Canada West bronze medalist, Guyn improved on last year’s performance with a silver medal in the 50 metre freestyle and help the Pronghorn relay team win their first medal since 2014 in the 4x100 freestyle with a bronze medal finish.
He was also fifth in the 100 metre freestyle.
At the conclusion of the meet, the local product was recognized as the Canada West Men’s Student-Athlete Community Service Award winner and will be the Canada West nominee for the national award at the U SPORTS Championship in Vancouver in February.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Danielle Fritzke – Women’s Basketball
Fifth-year guard Danielle Fritzke combined for 34 points and six rebounds to help the Pronghorn women’s basketball teams earn a weekend split with the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen.
Friday night, the Medicine Hat product scored 11 points and added three rebounds, two assists and a steal in the Pronghorns loss.
The next night, Fritzke sparked the Pronghorn offence to lead the ‘Horns to victory. Fritzke hit an impressive six threes to lead the Pronghorns with 23 points in the 76-63 win over the Wesmen. She also added another three rebounds and three assists in the win.
On the season, Fritzke is averaging 9.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
The Pronghorn women’s basketball team will wrap up the first semester of conference action this week, facing the Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home series, beginning Thursday night in Lethbridge.
