Female Athlete of the Week:
Sandra Latrace – Women’s Track
Third-year track standout Sandra Latrace put a cap on her indoor season this past weekend with a two medal performance at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships held in Winnipeg.
Latrace kicked off the meet with a gold medal in the 60 metre dash, winning the final with a time of 7.42 seconds, which would have been a new personal best except she had ran a personal best time of 7.40 seconds in the preliminary race.
The next day, Latrace added her third long jump national title to her resume. She was the lone competitor to jump over six metres and set a new venue record with a leap of 6.13 metres.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Andreas Troschke – Men’s Track
Defending U SPORTS Champion Andreas Troschke also picked up a medal this past weekend at the U SPORTS Championship with a bronze in the weight throw.
Troschke, who narrowly missed the podium at the Canada West Championships for the second year in a row, rose to the occasion at the national meet and took home the bronze medal with a throw of 18.08 metres, which was a new personal best. He missed the silver medal by a mere centimetre.
