Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 22, 2019.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Hailey Driscoll – Women’s Rugby
Facing nationally ranked and defending Canada West Champion Calgary Dinos, fifth-year back Hailey Driscoll was a force on both sides of the ball in the Pronghorn women’s rugby team’s 27-17 loss to the Dinos.
The Lethbridge, Alberta product continued her dominant offensive output this season contributing two of the Pronghorn three tries in the loss. Her speed was evident and she was a solid defensive player not allowing any line breaks on her side of the field.
For Driscoll and her Pronghorn teammates the challenge doesn’t get any easier this week, traveling to the West Coast to face the UBC Thunderbirds and Victoria Vikes. The T-Birds are ranked 10th in Canada, while the Vikes are two spots ahead of the Pronghorns in the nationally ranking at #7.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Landon Veluw – Men’s Soccer
In his first year with the Pronghorn men’s soccer team, southern Alberta product Landon Veluw has stepped right in and been a constant force on the pitch for the Pronghorns.
This past weekend, despite dropping both games, Veluw was dangerous offensively in both contests. On Saturday, he recorded two shots in the Pronghorns 2-0 loss to Fraser Valley. Then on Sunday, he had a team high six shot attempts, three of which were on goal in the Pronghorns 3-1 loss to Thompson Rivers.
On the season, Veluw has one goal and leads the Pronghorns in both shot attempts and shots on goal with 16 and nine respectively.
The Pronghorn men’s soccer team is on the road for one game, traveling to Saskatoon to take on the Saskatchewan Huskies.
