Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 13, 2019
Male Athlete of the Week:
Dallas Valentine – Men’s Hockey
Hosting the first conference games of the Canada West season, third-year defenceman Dallas Valentine helped the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s hockey team to a weekend sweep of the Regina Cougars, pushing the team’s winning streak to three games.
Friday during the Pronghorns 2019-20 home opener, the former Kamloops Blazer scored the eventual game winning goal and added an assist in the 4-1 win. He was also a plus three and recorded three shots on goal.
In the Pronghorns 7-5 win on Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep, Valentine assisted on two goals, including an assist on Michael Grant’s game winning goal. He was a plus three again on Saturday.
Through four games, Valentine sits tied for second in Canada West defencemen scoring with a goal and five assists and is plus six.
Valentine and his Pronghorn teammates head to Saskatoon this coming weekend to take on the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Eryn Johanson – Women’s Hockey
Building off a season opening sweep of the Manitoba Bisons, blueliner Eryn Johanson was a contributor at both ends of the ice as the Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s hockey team earned a weekend split in Regina and moved to 3-1-0-0 early into the Canada West season.
In the series opener, Johanson had a goal and an assist in the Pronghorns 5-2 win over the Cougars and was a key defensively in shutting down the Cougars attack.
The next afternoon, the Stockholm, SK product scored the lone goal as the Pronghorns suffered their first loss of the season, 2-1.
Through two weekends of Canada West action, Johanson is tied for the Pronghorns scoring lead and is third among Canada West blueliners with two goals and two assists.
The Pronghorns women’s hockey team is back in action this weekend at home, hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies.
