Female Athlete of the Week:
Amy Mazutinec – Women’s Basketball
Opening a new Canada West season, third-year forward Amy Mazutinec put forth two solid performances, helping the Pronghorn women’s basketball team to a weekend split with the Alberta Pandas.
Friday night, the Stirling, Alberta product chipped in with 16 points and seven rebounds in the Pronghorns 66-54 loss to the Pandas. In the rematch Saturday night, Mazutinec recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the Pronghorns 74-66 win over the Pandas. She also added three assists and a steal.
The Pronghorns women’s basketball team heads out on the road this weekend, traveling east to face the Brandon Bobcats.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Scott Mazutinec – Men’s Basketball
Returning to the program following a two-year mission, second-year guard Scott Mazutinec made an immediate impact on his return to the Pronghorn men’s basketball program during the opening weekend of Canada West action.
Coming off the bench, Mazutinec sparked the offence, tying for the team lead in points with 17 points, including an efficient 5 for 10 from behind the arc. He also added six rebounds in the Pronghorns 91-86 loss to the U SPORTS fifth ranked Alberta Golden Bears.
Saturday night, he led all Pronghorn scorers with 21 points on another solid shooting performance. In the loss, Mazutinec was four-for-nine from long range and missed only one of eight free throws.
Mazutinec and the Pronghorns men’s basketball team will be on the road this coming weekend, heading to Brandon to face the Brandon Bobcats for a pair of games.
