Male Athlete of the Week
Chris Alexander – Men’s Swimming
Part of a historic swim for the Pronghorns men’s swim program this past weekend during the Canada West swimming championships hosted at home, second-year local product Chris Alexander stepped onto the podium twice and led the way for the Pronghorns.
Saturday night in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay, Alexander was part of making Pronghorn history with the program's first ever silver medal in the men’s relays. Alexander swam the third leg of the relay, leading to the Pronghorns edging the perennial powers for the medal.
On the final day, he stepped back on the podium picking up the Pronghorns first individual medal of the meet. Qualifying for the finals in eighth position, Alexander stormed back in the finals with a strong swim to claim the bronze medal, his first individual Canada West medal.
During the meets opening day Alexander narrowly missed the podium in the 50 metre back, finishing less than a 10th of a second behind the bronze medal swimmer. He broke his own school record in the same race, finishing with a time of 25.39 seconds.
Alexander has qualified for the U SPORTS swimming championships that will be hosted by the University of Victoria in February.
