LETHBRIDGE – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 5, 2020.

Female Athlete of the Week:

Asnate Fomina – Women’s Basketball

Making her return to action after missing the entire first semester of Canada West play due to injury, Asnate Fomina stepped back in, not missing a beat and was a catalyst in the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s basketball team’s weekend split with 2019 Canada West finalist Regina Cougars.

Coming off the bench Friday night, Fomina scored a team high 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting, while adding three rebounds and three assists in the Pronghorns 78-70 loss to the Cougars.

Returning to her starting position Saturday night, the Latvian led the Pronghorns with a complete performance and was the facilitator of the Pronghorns offence in the team’s 73-66 victory. She finished with 15 points, seven assists, four rebounds, a block and a steal in the win.

Fomina took over the team lead in scoring average with 18 points per game in the two games.

Fomina and her Pronghorn teammates will head to Calgary for a match up Thursday night with the Calgary Dinos, before returning home for the rematch Saturday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.

Male Athlete of the Week

Colton Gibb – Men’s Basketball

Retuning to conference action following the first semester break, the fourth-year guard had a career game to help the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s basketball team to a weekend split with the Regina Cougars to open the 2020 portion of the Canada West schedule.

Friday night, the LCI product set a new career high in points for a game with 32 points on an efficient 13 for 19 shooting. Gibb also recorded his second double-double of the year grabbing 12 rebounds, while adding six assists, a block and a steal in the Pronghorns 110-92 win over Regina.

In the weekend finale, Gibb was one rebound short of a second consecutive double-double, putting up 10 points and nine rebounds in the Pronghorns 99-94 loss.

On the season, Gibb leads the Pronghorns in scoring and rebounding average, scoring 14. 4 points and averaging 6.8 rebounds per game.

The Pronghorns are back in action this coming weekend in a home-and-home series with the Calgary Dinos, beginning Thursday night in Calgary. The Pronghorns will host the Dinos Saturday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.
