LETHBRIDGE – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 19, 2020.

Female Athlete of the Week:
Hailey Driscoll– Women’s Rugby

Opening the 2020 Canada West Sevens series this past weekend in Edmonton, fifth-year back Hailey Driscoll led the Pronghorns both offensively and defensively to a third place finish.

Driscoll scored four tries on the weekend to lead the Pronghorns in scoring with 20 points, including scoring all three tries in the third place game to revenge an earlier loss to the UBC Thunderbirds with a close 15-12 win.

In the semifinal loss to the Victoria Vikes, Driscoll was stellar on defence, shutting down a potent attack and adding the lone Pronghorns try in a close 10-7 loss to the eventual champions of the Alberta Sevens stop.

Through the first event Driscoll sits tied for seventh in Canada West sevens scoring.

The Pronghorns women’s rugby team will head to Vancouver for the second stop of the series February 1st and 2nd, hosted by the UBC Thunderbirds.

Male Athlete of the Week
Chad Oviatt – Men’s Basketball

Entering crunch time of the Canada West schedule, third-year forward Chad Oviatt combined for 52 points and 28 rebounds to lead the Lethbridge Pronghorns to their first sweep of the season in a home-and-home series with provincial rival Mount Royal Cougars.

Thursday night in Calgary, the Edmonton product recorded his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 16 points on an efficient 6 of 9 from the field and grabbed 12 boards in the 102-93 win over the Cougars.

To follow up that performance, Oviatt had a career night with a second consecutive double-double Saturday, leading the Pronghorns to the sweep in a 108-79 win. The sciences student set a new career high for both points and rebounds in a game, scoring a game high 36 points and snagging 16 rebounds. He also added three steals, an assist and block in the win.

He was also named the Canada West third Star of the week.

Following his big weekend, Oviatt now leads the Pronghorns in scoring with 15 points per game and is averaging a team high 7.4 rebounds.

The Pronghorn men’s basketball team will enjoy a bye week this week before returning to action next weekend, traveling to Edmonton to face the MacEwan Griffins
