LETHBRIDGE – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 26, 2020.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Mikaela Reay – Women’s Hockey

Entering crunch time of the Canada West season and in need of points, fourth-year forward Mikaela Reay helped the Pronghorn women’s hockey team to a weekend split with the Mount Royal Cougars and move within four points of the final playoff spot in the conference.

A player that the Pronghorns rely on to play a 200 foot game, Reay led the team in face-off percentage, winning 67% of her face-offs over the two games.  She also leads the Pronghorns in shot blocks and a member of the team’s first penalty killing unit was essential to the Pronghorns killing off eight of nine Mount Royal power plays on the weekend.

She also played in her 100th career game as a Pronghorn on Friday night, a game the Pronghorns won 3-2 to snap a eight game losing streak.

Saturday night, Reay recorded an assist in the Pronghorns 4-3 loss at home.

On the season, Reay has recorded two goals and an assist but she is relied on to shut down the opponent’s top offensive producers.

The Pronghorn women’s hockey team heads out on the road this coming weekend, traveling to Vancouver to face the UBC Thunderbirds in a battle for the final playoff spot in Canada West.

Male Athlete of the Week
Michael Clarke – Men’s Hockey

Needing points to keep his team’s playoff hopes alive, first-year Pronghorn men’s hockey player Michael Clarke recorded a pair of two point games to help lead the Pronghorns earning two points on the weekend in a pair of extra time losses to the fourth place Mount Royal Cougars.

In the weekend opener of the home-and-home series Friday night at home, Clarke scored once and assisted on the other goal in the Pronghorns 3-2 overtime loss to the Cougars.

Saturday night in Calgary, he recorded another two assists in the Pronghorns 4-3 shootout loss.

On the season, Clarke is tied for the team lead in scoring with seven goals and nine assists in 24 games, which also places him sixth in Canada West freshman scoring.

The Pronghorn men’s hockey team will hit home ice this coming weekend, hosting the UBC Thunderbirds with their playoff aspirations on the line.
