Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 19, 2021.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Nolan French – Men’s Soccer
Returning to action after missing two full years of soccer, senior goalkeeper Nolan French opened the season with an excellent performance in the Pronghorn men’s soccer team 1-0 loss to the Mount Royal Cougars.
French suffered a severe knee injury late in the 2018-19 season and faced over two years of rehabilitation to get back on the field and finished with seven saves in his returning, including a huge save in the final five minutes to keep the Pronghorns within striking distance.
His leadership on and off the field has been exceptional and will be counted on throughout the season with the young Pronghorn team.
This weekend, French and the Pronghorn men’s soccer team heads out on the road to face the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Abby Duguid – Women’s Rugby
In a convincing season opening win, fifth-year lock Abby Duguid had a significant hand in the Pronghorns women’s rugby teams 53-7 win over the Alberta Pandas in first leg of the Suggitt Cup.
After taking last year off from school and playing rugby in England, Duguid was a force on both sides of the ball. In addition to scoring the first two tries of the game, Duguid moved the ball down the field with forceful runs. Defensively, she was dominant and was a key reason the Pronghorns kept the Pandas off the scoreboard until the final minutes of the game.
The Pronghorn women’s rugby team heads out on the road this Friday, traveling to Calgary to face the Calgary Dinos.
