Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 3, 2021.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Gwen Fillinger – Women’s Rugby
Looking to rebound from a loss the previous weekend, third-year flanker Gwen Fillinger led the way on both sides of the ball, helping the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s rugby team to a 24-3 win over the Alberta Pandas. The win also secured the Suggitt Cup for the Pronghorns for the third time in four tries.
The Rocky Mountain House product led the Pronghorns with two tries in the contest and was a thorn in the Pandas side all afternoon with her stellar work defensively on the breakdowns.
This weekend, Fillinger and the Pronghorns will host the Calgary Dinos Friday night at the University Community Stadium.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Jeremy Dalla Costa – Men’s Soccer
In a home-and-home series with the Calgary Dinos, first-year defender Jeremy Dalla Costa showed that he has made that step to the U SPORTS level very quickly for the Pronghorn men’s soccer team and has provided solid play at the back end.
The Calgary product played a full 90 minutes in both games and has been a bright spot on the young Pronghorns this season.
As a freshman Dalla Costa has started all five games this season and looks to have a bright future on the Pronghorns backline for years to come.
The Pronghorn men’s soccer team will be on home field this weekend, hosting the Alberta Golden Bears for a pair of games.
