Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 4, 2021.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Amy Mazutinec – Women’s Basketball
Coming off the bench both nights, fourth-year forward Amy Mazutinec helped spark the Pronghorns to a pair of come from behind victories over the MacEwan Griffins.
In the weekend opener, the Stirling, Alberta product scored nine points as the Pronghorns overcame a six point half time deficit to earn an 80-67 win over the Griffins.
Down eight points at the half Saturday night, Mazutinec scored 22 of her game high 24 points in the second half to led the Pronghorns to a 83-66 win. On the night, she had a near perfect night shooting, only missing one of her 11 shot attempts, while also adding six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Through eight games this season she is averaging 7.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
The Pronghorns will return to Canada West action January 21st and 22nd, hosting the Mount Royal Cougars.
Male Athlete of the Week:
De’Andrae Pierre – Men’s Basketball
In his first season with the Pronghorns, OUA transfer De’Andrae Pierre led the way this past weekend as the Pronghorns put an end to a losing streak with a pair of convincing wins over the MacEwan Griffins.
Friday night, Pierre scored 13 points to go along with seven assists and two steals with the Pronghorns blow out of the Griffins, 106-64.
In the final game of the first semester, Pierre scored a game high 28 points on an efficient 10 for 17 shooting, including three from long range in the Pronghorns 87-50 win. He also added four rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win.
On the season, the Brampton, Ontario product leads the Pronghorns in scoring averaging 13.9 points per game.
The Pronghorns will return to Canada West action January 21st and 22nd, hosting the Mount Royal Cougars.
