Male Athlete of the Week:
Jeff Rodehutskors – Men’s Basketball
Entering the home stretch of the Canada West season, third-year post Jeff Rodehutskors was a key cog in the Pronghorns road sweep of the Calgary Dinos and improved the team’s record to 6-6.
Friday night, Rodehutskors scored a game high 22 points on 7 of 13 shooting and added six rebounds, three blocks and two assists in the 85-81 win.
Rodehutskors followed up that performance with 14 points, missing only one shot and one free throw all game in a convincing 85-65 win. He also grabbed another eight rebounds to go along with three assists and one steal.
For his efforts, Rodehutskors was also named the Canada West men’s basketball Player of the Week.
On the season, the Dalemead, AB product is averaging 12.2 points and 6.8 rebounds a game and sits third in the conference in shooting percentage at 59.8%.
Rodehutskors and his Pronghorn teammates will host the undefeated Alberta Golden Bears this weekend in the final home games of the regular season.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Jessica Haenni – Women’s Basketball
Putting an end to a more than a decade long drought versus the Calgary Dinos, fourth-year guard Jessica Haenni combined to score 42 points to lead the Pronghorns to a sweep over the Calgary Dinos.
Prior to Friday night’s win the Pronghorns hadn’t beat the Dinos since 2010.
Haenni opened the two game series, scoring a game high 21 points in a 70-67 win over the Dinos. She added four steals, three assists and two rebounds.
Saturday night, Haenni scored another 21 points on an efficient 7 of 11 from the field, including 4 of 5 from behind the arc in a come from behind 71-70 win. She also snagged five rebounds, an assist and a steal in the win.
Haenni leads the Pronghorns in scoring this season, averaging 15.5 points per game which places her 12th in Canada West scoring.
The Pronghorns will host the Alberta Pandas this weekend in a battle for top spot in the Central Division.
