Female Athlete of the Week:
Caitlyn Bailes – Women’s Track and Field
Looking to improve on a 2020 Canada West bronze medal, third-year thrower Caitlyn Bailes showed that the hard work she had put in over the missed season has paid off; narrowly missing the top of the Canada West podium in Winnipeg.
On the narrowest margins, one centimetre, Bailes took home the Canada West silver medal in the weight throw. Her best throw of 16.78 metres was also a new personal best, improving on a 16.43 metre throw she threw earlier this season.
Bailes will now look to throw a third personal best this season at the U SPORTS Championships in two weeks’ time, hosted by the University of New Brunswick. Bailes currently sits ranked sixth in the U SPORTS rankings.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Andreas Troschke – Men’s Track and Field
It was two years in the making, but Pronghorn track and field thrower Andreas Troschke was finally able to defend his Canada West title from 2020.
Ranked first heading into the Canada West Championships in Winnipeg this past weekend, the Olds, Alberta product did not disappoint measuring the two furthest throws in the event and setting a new personal best.
His best throw of 18.16 metres won the event by nearly 80 centimetres.
Troschke will now prepare for the U SPORTS Championship meet, hosted by the University of New Brunswick March 31st to April 2nd. Troschke is currently ranked second in the U SPORTS rankings.
