Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 11, 2022
Male Athlete of the Week:
Damon Field – Men’s Soccer
Defender Damon Field was instrumental in the Pronghorn men’s soccer team picking up their first win since 2017 this past weekend in Calgary versus the Dinos.
Rebounding from a tough loss Saturday versus Mount Royal, the Pronghorns picked up a hard fought 2-1 win over the Dinos, which included playing a man down for the final five minutes and injury time.
The six-foot-six Calgary product was solid defensively, anticipating and breaking down any attacking threats. He was also the offensive hero, scoring was proved to be the game winning goal. It was his second career goal in 29 career games as a Pronghorn.
Field and the Pronghorns will be on home turf this weekend, hosting the Trinity Western Spartans Saturday as part of the Horns Triple Header and then face the UNBC Timberwolves on Sunday.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Jennifer Izyk – Women’s Rugby
First-year Pronghorn Jennifer Izyk has had an immediate Impact on the rugby program. The backrow player returned to school as a mature student and has been a steadying force for the Pronghorn pack.
In her second game as a Pronghorn last weekend and despite the last second 22-20 loss to the Alberta Pandas, the Blackie, Alberta product went to work and put forth a solid performance with nine solo tackles, four assisted tackles, while also have four line breaking runs and causing two turnovers.
The Pronghorns will get a chance to enact some revenge on the Pandas this Saturday as part of the Horns Triple Header, kick-off is set for 7:00 PM. The game will also be the second leg of the Suggitt Cup and the Pronghorns will need to win by more than two points to retain the Cup.
