Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 25, 2022
Female Athlete of the Week:
Karlee Durfey – Women’s Rugby
Completing a tough stretch in the conference schedule that saw the Pronghorn women’s rugby team play five games in 23 days, fifth-year hooker Karlee Durfey put forth an impressive performance from her forward position.
Her work on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball in two tough games against nationally ranked opponents was outstanding. Sure tackling and consistent offensive line breaks with ball in hand had Durfey standout among all players this past weekend.
In addition to her strong play across the field, Durfey scored two tries against the nationally second ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Sunday and she now sits second on the Pronghorns in tries scored with three.
Durfey and the Pronghorns have a much deserved bye week and will wrap up the Canada West regular season on October 7th, hosting the Calgary Dinos.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Thomas Denness – Men’s Soccer
On the road this past weekend, third-year defender Thomas Denness stepped up into a leadership role and managed the Pronghorn defensive structure from the back line.
For the first time since 2012, the Pronghorns earned a point from the always tough Victoria Vikes in a scoreless draw and Denness was a key component of holding the Vikes off the scoresheet.
Over the course of two games, Denness played all 180 minutes and recorded one shot on goal from his defensive position.
The Pronghorn men’s soccer team is on the road again this weekend, traveling to Edmonton to face the Alberta Golden Bears and MacEwan Griffins.
