Male Athlete of the Week:
Derek Waldner – Men’s Basketball
Senior post Derek Waldner kicked off his final season in a Pronghorn uniform in style last weekend and led the ‘Horns to a weekend sweep of the Winnipeg Wesmen.
In the opener, Waldner led all scorers with 29 points on 12 of 18 shooting in the ‘Horns close 84-81 win over the Wesmen. He also completed the double-double grabbing 10 rebounds, also a game high.
Despite being in foul trouble early, Waldner had a strong second half finishing with 14 points as the ‘Horns completed the sweep with a convincing 95-78 win. He narrowly missed recording his second consecutive double-double, finishing with nine rebounds and was an efficient five for eight from the field.
