Male Athlete of the Week:
Derek Waldner – Men’s Basketball
While the ‘Horns have split both of their weekend series’ since coming back from semester break, senior post Derek Waldner has been on fire since the calendar turned to the new year. This past weekend, Waldner recorded his third and fourth double-double and now has 22 double-doubles in his Pronghorn career.
Friday night, Waldner scored 19 points on an efficient 6 of 11 shooting and snatched 13 rebounds in the ‘Horns 96-72 loss to the Trinity Western Spartans. He followed up that performance leading all Pronghorn scorers Saturday night with 18 points and 16 rebounds in the ‘Horns 74-72 win over the seventh ranked Fraser Valley Cascades. Waldner was also credited with two assists and two blocks.
On the season, Waldner leads the ‘Horns in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.3 points and 10.7 rebounds. He leads the conference in total rebounds and sits second in rebounding average.
