Female Athlete of the Week:
Kim Veldman – Women’s Basketball
For the second consecutive week, third-year post Kim Veldman has earned the nod as the female Pronghorn athlete of the week after combining for 35 points and 23 rebounds in the ‘Horns weekend sweep of the Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg. It was the ‘Horns first road sweep of the season.
In Friday’s weekend opening win over the Bisons, Veldman scored 10 points and added six rebounds but it was Saturday night that Veldman was truly dominant. In the Pronghorns series sweeping win, Veldman set new career highs in both points and rebounds. She scored 25 points on 8 of 13 shooting from the floor and a near perfect 9 of 10 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed 17 rebounds.
Her previous career bests were 20 points scored earlier this year and 15 rebounds, which she set during her freshman season versus Victoria.
On the season, Veldman is averaging 12.6 and 8.2 rebounds per game.
