Horns face 6th ranked Huskies in Saskatoon

Lethbridge - Coming off a pair of wins during the home opening weekend last week, the women’s basketball team (2-2 CW, 7-6 overall) head out on the road for the second time this season, traveling to Saskatoon to face the CIS sixth ranked Saskatchewan Huskies (0-3 CW).

After opening the 2011-12 conference schedule with a pair of losses on the road versus the Winnipeg Wesmen, the ‘Horns rebounded with solid wins over a pair of British Columbia schools in the UBC-O Heat and Thompson Rivers WolfPack at home.

Despite being winless in their first three games, the Huskies will provide a stiff test for the new look ‘Horns. All three of the Huskies losses have come versus CIS ranked teams in the top ranked Regina Cougars and fifth ranked Alberta Pandas. All three games were on the road.

Three Pronghorns averaged double digits each game including Katlyn Olsen at 11.5, Kim Veldman at 11.0 and Lauren Tall at 10.5. Lethbridge has also been strong on the boards with Natalie Nichols leading the team with nine rebounds per game. Deanna Dotts adds another 8.3 and Veldman tallies 6.3 per game.

Two-time CIS Defensive Player of the Year Katie Miyazaki leads the Huskies with 17 points per game and averages 6.7 rebounds per game. Rookie post Dalyce Emmerson has made an early impact in the Canada West averaging 10.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. Second-year point guard Kabree Howard has chipped in 9.7 points per game.

The Huskies are 54-70 against Lethbridge since 1973.

Tip-off for both Friday and Saturday night’s games are scheduled for 6:15 in Saskatoon. The games will also be available on www.canadawest.tv, the home of all Canada West web broadcasts.
