Lethbridge – After facing CIS ranked opponents last weekend, the competition doesn’t get any easier for the Pronghorn basketball teams as they return home for their final home games before the semester break.

The women’s basketball team (2-4 CW, 7-8 overall) coming off a pair of losses to the CIS #6 Saskatchewan Huskies, will get another tough challenge in the second ranked UBC Thunderbirds (3-1 CW) and unranked Victoria Vikes (4-2).

Around the Horns
Tight low scoring games have been the theme thus far for the ‘Horns. Of their six conference games, only twice has the ‘Horns or their opponent scored more than 70 points. The ‘Horns hold the 10th ranked offence in Canada West, scoring 61 points per night. They also hold the 9th ranked defense surrendering 66 points per game. Sophomore post Kim Veldman leads the team with 11 points per game with senior Lauren Taal a close second. Newcomer Natalie Nichols leads the squad in rebounding, grabbing just over 7 rebounds per game. Veldman is second with 6.3 rebounds per game.

T-Birds flying in formation
Friday night’s opponent, T-Birds are on the road for the first time this season and come to Lethbridge with only one blemish on their record, a loss to the #1 team in the country, the Regina Cougars.
Through four games, the T-Birds have relied on a balanced attack with four starters averaging double digits, and have averaged a conference’s fourth best 74 points per game. Kristjana Young leads the way for the T-Birds averaging just over 17 points per night. Alexandra Veiweg sits second on the team with 14.8 points per game, and is third in the conference with 8.3 rebounds per game.

Vikes on the offensive
Despite being unranked, the Vikes are off to a great start sitting among the Pacific leaders. The Vikes are the top offensive team in the conference averaging 80 points per game and have hit the most threes in the conference with 49. 2010 Canada West 2nd team all-star Deborah Yeboah leads the way with 14.5 points per game, and the high flying Vikes also have four players averaging double digits in points. Cassandra Goods in second in the conference in assists with 6.2 a night.
