Horns Host Alberta Rival Dinos

Lethbridge – Coming off another match-up versus a national ranked opponent, the Pronghorn women’s basketball team (2-10 CW, 8-16 overall) will look to build off a solid performance last Saturday, hosting southern Alberta rival Calgary Dinos (7-5 CW).

Tip-off for both nights is scheduled for 6:00pm at the 1st Choice Savings Centre and the game will also be webcast on www.canadawest.tv, home of all Canada West webcasts.

‘Horns Build off Positives
Despite suffering the team’s 10th consecutive loss, the ‘Horns can take a lot of positives away from last Saturday’s loss to the sixth ranked Alberta Pandas. Rebounding from a tough loss Friday night, the ‘Horns gave the Pandas all they could handle in a 87-83 loss and had solid performances from multiple players.

Coming off a serious knee injury from last year, senior guard Lauren Taal had her best weekend of the season and scored a season high 27 points last Saturday, while sophomore Kim Veldman continued her development recording her third double-double of the season. 83 points was also a season high for the 11th ranked offense that is averaging only 60.1 points per game.

Dinos in a playoff fight
Just past the half way mark of the season, the Dinos find themselves in a tight battle for a playoff position. It looks like it will be a three horse race for the final two playoff spots in the West Division and currently the Dinos are tied with the Winnipeg Wesmen for the final spot, while the Saskatchewan Huskies hold third spot, also with 7 wins but have played one fewer game.

The conference’s second ranked offense, averaging 73.8 points per night, is led by Jenna Kaye with 14.4 points per game, but also have three other players who average more than 10 points a game. Tamara Jarret is averaging 13.4 points, while Alex Cole and Megan Lang are averaging just over 10 points.  Defensively the Dinos are ranked sixth, allowing 63.4 points per night and lead Canada West in steals with 175 in 12 games.
