Lethbridge – Looking to build off their best season in 12 years, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s basketball team (2-0 CW) got off to a running start, sweeping the Winnipeg Wesmen last weekend but they’ll face a great early season challenge, hosting the CIS seventh ranked Saskatchewan Huskies (1-1 CW).

With some uncertainty to start the season due to the departure of their top two scorers from last season, the ‘Horns got some great performances last weekend from their veterans.
Fifth-year senior Derek Waldner kicked off his final season in style last weekend, recording a double-double in Friday night’s 84-81 win. Waldner led all scorers with 29 points on 12 of 18 shooting and grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
In the second night, shooting guard Morgan Duce led the way with 26 points on a solid 10 of 13 shooting. Four other ‘Horns hit double digits in points as the ‘Horns ran to a 95-78 win.
The Huskies, who return no starters from last season, split their season open series with provincial rival Regina Cougars last weekend, losing the first game in Regina 95-90 before rebounding with a 89-74 win at home.
The 2012 Canada West bronze medalist Huskies have some big shoes to fill with the departures of Canada West MVP and First Team All-Canadian Jamelle Barrett and Michael Lieffers, after going 16-4 last season.
American Junior College transfer Stephon Lamar got off to great start in his Canada West debut leading the Huskies in scoring both nights last weekend with 28 and 40 points respectively.
