Winnipeg - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen picked up their third victory of the regular season with a convincing 66-42 decision over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in a rare Saturday afternoon game in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg improves it's regular season record to 3-2. The Pronghorns fall below .500 at 2-3.
Second year guard Megan Noonan was a spark plug for the Wesmen finishing with a team high 20 points and five rebounds. Fifth year forward Alyssa Grant and Taylor Thorkelsson each contributed 10 points.
Kim Veldman was the top scorer for Lethbridge finishing with a double-double consisting of 25 points and 17 rebounds.
After a close opening 20 minutes that had Winnipeg leading 25-19, the Wesmen stepped up their game on both sides of the ball in the third quarter. Winnipeg scored 20 points in the quarter while holding the Pronghorns to only 10. The Wesmen opened up a double digit lead of 45-29 after 30 minutes.
The hometown Wesmen continued their strong play and never relinquished their double digit lead making the final tally 66-42.
Winnipeg and Lethbridge will wrap up their weekend series on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. scheduled tip off.
