‘Horns look to put an end to a slide versus UBC-O and TRU

Lethbridge – Losers of three straight games, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's basketball team looks to get back into the win column at home this weekend, hosting a pair of Pacific Division schools in the UBC – Okanagan Heat and Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

Friday night, the 'Horns host the Heat at 6:00pm and conclude the week with a match up with the WolfPack at 5:00pm Saturday. Both games will be streamed live at http://canadawest.tv.

The 'Horns dropped to 2-4 on the season after losing both games last weekend in Winnipeg versus the Wesmen. The offensive end of the floor continues to be the 'Horns Achilles heel this season, as they rank last in scoring, only averaging 49.5 points per game.

Despite the team's offensive woes, fourth-year post Kim Veldman continues her strong start to the season, sitting third on the conference's scoring list, averaging 19.4 points, while leading the conference in rebounding at 11.6 rebounds per game. Katelyn Olsen is the only other Pronghorn to average double digits in points thus far.

Also marred in a three game losing streak, the Heat dropped to 1-5 on the season after being swept at home last weekend by the Victoria Vikes.  Ranked last at the defensive end of the floor, allowing 76.5 points per game, the Heat could be the tonic the 'Horns need to kick-start their offense.

Sitting 11th offensively, scoring at a 60.5 points per game clip, the Heat also have just two players averaging double digits in points. Sarah Allison leads the way with 12.2 ppg and Emily Kanester sits second with 11.3 ppg.

Off to a .500 start, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack have split all three weekend series thus far, including an impressive overtime victory over the UBC Thunderbirds, who were ranked fifth in the Canada West preseason coach's poll.

Similar to their record, the WolfPack are ranked near the middle in most Canada West statistical categories. Offensively, the WolfPack are ranked ninth, scoring on average 61.5 points per game and on the defensive side of the ball Thompson Rivers sits 11th (67.8 ppg).

Taiysa Worsfeld leads the WolfPack attack, averaging 17.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
