Lethbridge – A night after suffering their first loss of the season, the Manitoba Bisons rebounded Saturday night to earn a weekend road split with a 61-53 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in Canada West women's basketball action.

The 'Horns opened the weekend with a hard fought 59-54 win Friday night.

Stephanie Gill's 17 points for the Bisons led all scorers, while Allison Balasko was the only other Bison to hit double digits and contributed with 15 points of her own. For the Pronghorns Katlyn Olsen led the way with 15 points and freshman Mariah Miller scored 11 in the losing cause. Post Kim Veldman saw her double-double streak come to an end but still contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds on the night.

While the 'Horns led the way for the majority of the opening half, they were never able to extend the lead past six points and lingered around three points for long stretches of the half. Following a poor shooting night in the opening half last night, the Bisons did not allow that to repeat itself and shot 44% from the field. After shooting at a slightly better clip in the first twenty minutes (48.1%) the 'Horns held onto a slim two point lead at the half.

The second half was a different story and while the Bisons' shooting cooled off slightly, it was the 'Horns inability to score that would be their undoing. Hitting on only 18% in the second half, the 'Horns saw their slim lead dwindle early in the third quarter and trailed by as many as eight points.

Despite clawing back in the fourth quarter, coming within two at one point, the 'Horns were never able to fully recover and had to settle for a eight point loss.

The loss drops the 'Horns back to .500 at 2-2 after two consecutive weekend splits to open the season. The Bisons move to 3-1 on the season and will return home to host the Calgary Dinos next weekend. The 'Horns head out on the road next week, also traveling to Winnipeg to face the Winnipeg Wesmen.
