Lethbridge – The Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s basketball team (10-10 CW) was officially eliminated from post-season contention last weekend after a pair of losses to the Regina Cougars, but the team has a chance to finish the season at or above the .500 mark for the first time in 18 years.
During the 1994-95 season the ‘Horns finished with a 10-10 record and the year prior was the last time the program posted a record above the .500 mark when they ended the year at 14-6.
It will be a daunting task for the ‘Horns because they’ll face a nationally ranked opponent for the second week in a row. The Dinos, who are ranked seventh in the country, have already solidified a home playoff date but do not know who they’ll face in the cross-over quarter final as of yet.
The Dinos enter the weekend riding a three game winning streak and are still battling the Regina Cougars for top spot in the Division.
In their only other matchup this season the Dinos defeated the ‘Horns at their annual Holiday Hoops tournament, 66-57.
Ali Cameron continues to lead the ‘Horns offensively and sits ninth on the Canada West scoring list (15 ppg). Kim Veldman is second on the ‘Horns in scoring with 12.2 points per game and is ranked sixth in the conference in rebounding (8.3 rpg).
Friday night will also mark the final game in a Pronghorn uniform for a trio of players as Stephanie Inman, Kara Henry and Erin Skippon will all complete their CIS eligibility this season.
For the Dinos, fifth-year forward Jessica Franz leads the Dinos, she is currently sixth in Canada West scoring (16.7 ppg).
The ‘Horns and Dinos home-and-home series kicks off Thursday night in Calgary at the Jack Simpson Gym with the back half going Friday night at the 1
st Choice Savings Centre in Lethbridge. Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 6:00pm and will be webcast on
