Box Score CALGARY – The Dinos captured their 18th win, and the last of the regular season at home on Thursday when they defeated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 74-66 at Jack Simpson Gymnasium on Enterprise Rent-A-Car Senior Night.
Calgary improves to 18-3 and holds the top spot in the Prairie Division. The Pronghorns have already been eliminated from the Canada West playoffs and fall to 10-11.
Nine Dinos contributed to the win and it was Tamara Jarrett that was the team-high scorer with 14 points and five rebounds. Alex Cole and Ashley Hirons also hit double-digits with 11 and 10 points respectively.
For the visiting Pronghorns, Ali Cameron scored a game-high 19 points, and Stephanie Inman recorded another 18. Kim Veldman was the only player in the game to record a double-double, scoring ten points and grabbing ten rebounds.
Both teams were hot on the offence in the first quarter of the game, but it was the Dinos who took the first significant lead at 17-10 nearing the end of the quarter. Two big steals by the Pronghorns within the final minute allowed them to cut Calgary’s lead down to three at 21-18 heading into the second.
The Dinos built back an eight-point lead by the seven minute mark with a three-pointer from Kristie Sheils. The Pronghorns quickly responded with a three of their own to stay in it though, and that would help spark some offence. Lethbridge got within three once again at 35-32 and finally tied the score at 38. Blowing an eight-point lead the Dinos headed into halftime down by one, 40-38.
In the third, after Calgary was flirting with the lead, an and-one from guard Jarrett finally did it at 50-49. Both teams traded leads, but it was the Dinos really pulling away in the final minutes of the third. They took a seven-point lead with 10 minutes left in the game.
The fourth quarter saw the Pronghorns trying to play catch-up, but to no avail. The Dinos closed out the win by a score of 74-66.
In the home-and-home series, the Dinos will head to Lethbridge to compete in the final game of the regular season on February 15. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
