Saskatoon - The No. 5 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies forced the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns to make 25 turnovers en route to a 58-44 victory Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
With the win Saskatchewan, improves to 13-2 on the season. Lethbridge drops to 5-10 with the loss.
Saskatchewan dominated the opening 10 minutes of play taking a 13-0 lead early. The Huskies had seven steals in the quarter, which they turned in to 11 points and a 20-8 lead.
In the second, Saskatchewan continued to increase the gap, doubling their 12-point first quarter lead by halftime to lead 40-16. The Huskies forced the Pronghorns to commit 18 of the turnover tally in the first two quarters.
Saskatchewan's lead grew to 51-29 after three quarters, but the Pronghorns closed the gap to nine with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. The 'Horns tightened up their defensive effort resulting in the Huskies finishing the second half shooting only 23%. Lethbridge committed only seven turnovers in the second half.
Saskatchewan gained the gained their advantage turning Lethbridge turnovers into 29 points. The Pronghorn's scored just 12 points off Huskie turnovers.
Kelsey Trulsrud scored a game-high 13 points, while grabbing six rebounds. Desarae Hogberg added 12 more points. Kiera Lyons recorded four steals in the win.
The Pronghorns leading scorer on the season, Kim Veldman, led the squad again with 12 points and eight rebounds. Katlyn Olsen added 10 more points.
The two squads will meet again Saturday night. Tip-off is slated for 6:15 p.m. in the PAC.
