Box Score
Calgary – The Mount Royal Cougars fell 66-48 to the Lethbridge Pronghorns tonight at Kenyon Court.  Mariah Miller and Kim Veldman led the Pronghorns in scoring with 20 and 19 points respectively. Alicia Tan put in a team-high 13 for the Cougars. Â
The Cougar's first game back was a little rusty as their shots had a tough time finding the net. Lethbridge went up 6-2 to start the quarter capitalizing on Mount Royal's inability to put back rebounds. However Lethbridge began to fall victim to a similar problem, as they too had trouble finding the hoop. After the first quarter the Cougars trailed 12-10.
The second opened up right where the first left off. Both teams worked the ball around nicely and gave themselves great looks that just wouldn't fall. Eventually a few balls dropped and Mount Royal closed in. The Cougars even took the lead on a Brooke Lister three-pointer. The lead was short-lived as the Pronghorns muscled back with multiple field goals to take a 26-24 lead into the half.
Lethbridge blew the game wide open in the third quarter. They ran the floor and scored at will on the helpless Cougar defenders. The Pronghorns went on a 12-0 run to start the quarter and effectively won the game in that five minute stretch. By the end of the third the score was 48-29.
Alicia Tan opened the fourth with a three pointer but it was the last shot the Cougars would hit for a while. Turnovers and defensive lapses by Mount Royal gave the Pronghorns opportunities and they didn't hesitate to convert. The final score was 66-48 in favour of the Pronghorns.
Mount Royal now holds a record of 1-10, while Lethbridge improves to 4-7 on the season.
Lethbridge will head west to Prince George to play UNBC on Saturday night.
The Cougars will hold home court on Saturday when they will welcome the Calgary Dinos into their gym for the Seventh Annual CBCF Shoot for the Cure Game. Tip-off is at 5:00pm at Kenyon Court.
